Pangolin Photo Safaris

Kasane, Botswana: Pangolin Photo Safaris, Africa’s premier photographic safari operator, is proud to announce the launch of its Wildlife Photography for Beginners course through the online Pangolin Photo Academy.

This innovative, free course is designed not only for aspiring wildlife photographers but also to empower and upskill guides and staff at safari camps and operators across Botswana.

Hosted by three talented Botswana citizens (Pusetso Nteta, Walter Aaron and Thatayaone Jongman) – recruited, trained, and now fully qualified by Pangolin Photo Safaris – the course delivers practical, hands-on instruction in the fundamentals of wildlife photography. From understanding camera gear to mastering the creative principles that underpin compelling wildlife imagery, participants will gain the skills needed to elevate their photography and enhance the guest experience at safari lodges throughout the region.

“Our mission is to raise the standard of wildlife photography knowledge among those who are at the heart of the safari experience: the guides and staff,” said Toby Jermyn for Pangolin Photo Safaris. “By investing in local talent and providing accessible, high-quality training, we’re helping to ensure that Botswana remains at the forefront of photographic tourism in Africa.”

The course curriculum covers:

  • Basics of camera operation and gear selection
  • Fundamental principles of wildlife photography
  • Creative techniques for capturing unique images
  • Practical sessions and real-world assignments

The Wildlife Photography for Beginners course is available online and is completely free, making it accessible to all guides and staff, regardless of previous experience. The program is part of Pangolin’s ongoing commitment to community development and skills transfer within the Botswana tourism sector.

Along with the beginner’s course, additional courses include:

  • A full editing course on Adobe Lightroom
  • Courses on advanced creative photographic techniques

The three Botswana hosts, who present the course, are a testament to Pangolin’s dedication to nurturing local expertise. Having started as trainees, they now serve as inspiring role models and educators for their peers, sharing their knowledge and passion for wildlife photography with the next generation of guides.

Tour operators, camp managers, and tourism professionals are encouraged to enroll their staff in the Pangolin Photo Academy’s Wildlife Photography for Beginners course to enhance their guests’ safari experience and support the professional growth of their teams.
