HOW TO GET THERE
By air, visitors can catch scheduled flights to Kasane from Gaborone, Francistown and Maun in Botswana and Johannesburg in South Africa. Numerous private charter companies also use the Kasane Airport. However, do not be tempted to walk from the airport due to dangerous wildlife. By road, Kasane is close to the border with Zimbabwe and Zambia at the Kazungula border crossing, about 8 km (5 mi) to the east. The Ngoma border post with Namibia is 58 km (36 mi) to the west. The safari hub of Maun, serving the Okavango Delta, is 608 km, while the capital, Gaborone, is 925 km (575 mi) to the south. The above routes are all on well-paved roads, although care should be taken for roaming wildlife, cattle and pedestrians. Driving at night is not advised.
WHEN TO VISIT
Kasane can be visited at any time of the year, although a “Peak Season” is associated with the corresponding high/low seasons of the surrounding national parks. Your travel agent or accommodation provider will advise you when these are for the destinations in Botswana and neighbouring Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia. During the Summer (November to April), you can expect hot and humid conditions with cloudy conditions and occasional rainfall. In Winter (May to October), the weather is warm and clear. Temperatures range between 10°C to 35°C throughout the year. Self-drive visitors planning a safari should remember that many secondary roads become impassable in the Wet Season from November to March.
