Wild and wonderfully remote, Kavinga Safari Camp is deeply connected to its surroundings, offering an intimate and authentic safari experience. Set on the edge of a cliff, Kavinga looks out over a busy waterhole, the sweeping Rukomechi riverbed, and the dramatic Zambezi escarpment. With just eight rooms, each accommodating two guests, the camp is designed to feel exclusive yet welcoming – an escape where you can truly relax and feel at home, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the African bush.

The semi-tented, ensuite rooms are thoughtfully positioned on elevated platforms, ensuring both privacy and comfort. Each room features its own verandah, creating a peaceful space to unwind while enjoying an armchair safari as wildlife gathers at the waterhole below. Fresh, home-cooked meals and dinners beneath the stars add to the camp’s warm, personal atmosphere.

Kavinga is also renowned for its two underground photographic hides, ranked among Africa’s top three by WildEyeSA. These hides offer a rare, eye-level perspective of wildlife, providing unforgettable, close-up viewing and exceptional and unforgettable photographic opportunities.

The concession itself is rich in biodiversity, home to striking landscapes and an abundance of wildlife, birdlife and plant species. During the dry season, the waterhole can attract up to 1,000 buffalo and 500 elephants in a single day, while predators such as lion, leopard, wild dog and spotted hyena are frequent visitors to the unfenced camp.

A range of expertly guided activities include game drives, walking safaris, birdwatching, and time in the hides – all tailored to guests’ interests for a truly personal safari. The camp’s picturesque swimming pool, which is tucked into the side of the cliff below the main lounge area, also allows guests to enjoy a ‘poolside’ safari while cooling off during the hotter months. Despite its remote feel, Kavinga is accessible by both road and air, with a small airstrip on the concession offering convenient fly-in access.
