Evolve Back Gham Dhao Lodge

Evolve Back Gham Dhao Lodge is located on the northern boundary of Botswana’s Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR), in the heart of the vast Kalahari Desert. The name ‘Gham Dhao’ is derived from the local San language and translates as ‘Tracks of the Lion’, a fitting tribute to the landscape and its wildlife heritage.

Established in 1961 and spanning just over 52,000 sq. km, the Central Kalahari Game Reserve is the second-largest game reserve in the world. This immense wilderness forms a distinct ecological unit, linking the woodlands of the northern Kalahari with the thornveld and scrub plains of the south. Its diverse habitats support an array of iconic species, including lion, leopard, the elusive brown hyena, gemsbok, blue wildebeest and eland.

Set within its own 11,000-hectare private game reserve, the lodge offers an immersive and exclusive Kalahari experience. Guests enjoy personalised game drives led by expert rangers, guided nature walks with the San people, and bush dinners deep in the African wilderness beneath breathtaking night skies.

The property features three categories of luxury tented accommodation, with a maximum capacity of just twenty guests. This limited scale ensures privacy and a sense of unhurried luxury, allowing each guest to experience the Kalahari at their own pace. The lodge also has its own private airstrip in the heart of the desert, providing seamless access within Botswana.

Now open to guests from around the world, Evolve Back Gham Dhao Lodge offers a rare opportunity to experience one of Africa’s most expansive and dramatic landscapes in refined comfort.
