Sungani

Sungani Lodge and Kulandila Camp are two family-owned and operated safari lodges set in the remote and untouched southern region of South Luangwa National Park, Zambia. Together, they offer an adventure-based luxury experience that embraces the raw beauty of the African bush while delivering comfort, elegance, and a deep commitment to conservation and community.

Sungani Lodge is the southernmost property in the park, positioned beside a vast, wildlife-rich lagoon near the Luangwa River. Just upstream lies Kulandila Camp, nestled between the river and another peaceful lagoon. The remoteness of both properties is central to their appeal, offering guests the rare opportunity to experience the wild as it once was, untouched, tranquil, and far from the crowds, but with the added comforts of thoughtful, refined design.

Both lodges are located approximately 90 kilometres from Mfuwe. Guests are flown directly in an inclusive 20 minute flight transfer to Luamfwa Airstrip from Mfuwe, ensuring seamless access and a truly exclusive arrival. From the moment they land, guests are immersed in an environment where nature, comfort, and authenticity coexist.

Each property has been carefully designed to reflect a love for raw materials, classic lines, and timeless style. Sustainability is at the heart of the design, with both lodges operating on solar power and using advanced water filtration systems to reduce environmental impact and provide fresh, clean drinking water.

Sungani Lodge is raised entirely on elevated decking, offering spacious walkways and a seamless connection between the main pool, outdoor dining areas, and generous guest tents. With just eight luxurious tents, each suite provides privacy and space, complete with oversized beds, air-conditioning, a private plunge pool, and both indoor and outdoor bathing facilities, all with sweeping views of the surrounding lagoon.

Kulandila Camp, more intimate and traditional in feel, features four beautifully appointed elevated tents overlooking a lagoon and the Luangwa River. Linked by winding paths, the tents lead to a central main area that includes a river-facing pool, comfortable viewing decks, and open-plan lounge and dining spaces. Each tent includes a ceiling fan, large indoor daybed, and an outdoor bath, perfect for soaking under the stars.

At the heart of both Sungani and Kulandila is a guiding ethos: depth over drama. Fewer people. More space. Slower journeys. The lodges are small by design, creating space for meaningful conservation, authentic community engagement, and deep personal connection to nature.

By choosing Sungani or Kulandila, guests are supporting a destination that operates with integrity. One that invests in local people, empowers rural communities, and actively protects Zambia’s wild spaces. This is more than a safari. It is a powerful decision to help keep wild places truly wild for generations to come.
