Beyond The Victoria Falls and the towns of Livingstone and Victoria Falls lies a vast wilderness of untamed beauty – Africa’s Eden. Africa’s Eden includes conservancies in the four countries, encompassing several National Parks, other protected areas and wildlife estates. This continuous landscape, unified under KAZA, covers a staggering 520,000 sq. km and is home to thousands of different plants, hundreds of species of animals, fish, and birds, and comprises numerous migration routes. These combined conservancies offer a wide variety of options for wilderness, safari, conservation and adventure activities for visitors to Africa’s Eden.

Livingstone, Zambia, is named after the first European to set eyes on The Victoria Falls and its surrounding area – David Livingstone. The city is approximately 10 km from the Victoria Falls Waterfall and the Victoria Falls Bridge that connects Zambia to Zimbabwe. Livingstone is a tourism hub as many travellers come to Livingstone to see The Victoria Falls, experience its many activities, and visit the surrounding National Parks.

Kafue National Park

Kafue National Park is one of the oldest Parks in Africa. Founded in 1924 and formally established in the 1950s, Kafue National Park stretches along a substantial portion of the Kafue River in western Zambia. It is the largest park in the country and the second-largest in Africa. The seasonal floodplains teem with enormous herds of antelope, which attracts a corresponding population of predators. Despite its size and history, Kafue National Park is one of the lesser-known parks. Large areas of diverse habitats and wildlife make it ideal for the adventurous traveller seeking to experience an unexplored wilderness.

Kasanka National Park

What Kasanka National Park lacks in size, it makes up for in the sheer diversity of habitats and species. The park covers 390 km2 (150 sq mi) in Zambia's Central Province, approximately 521km from Lusaka by road. The park is famous for the annual bat migration – said to be the largest mammal migration on the planet – which takes place from October to December. The park's scenery is spectacular and regarded as having the finest bird-watching opportunities on the planet. The park does not see a lot of visitors, but thanks to a public-private partnership, it is well-managed and a favourite with passionate nature lovers.

Liuwa Plains National Park

Established in 1972, Liuwa Plains National Park is an extraordinary wilderness area located in the Western Province of Zambia. Liuwa, meaning "plain" in the local Lozi language, is an apt description of the lush grasslands that characterise this remote and wild park with abundant wildlife and birdlife. Those willing to make an effort to visit Liuwa Plains will be rewarded with a pristine wilderness experience. If you choose to visit during the drier months, you will witness Africa's second-largest wildebeest migration without the crowds.

Lower Zambezi National Park

An adventurer’s playground offering some of Southern Africa's best walking and canoeing safaris in pristine wilderness, the Lower Zambezi National Park is situated on the Zambian side of the Zambezi River. With National Park opposite, on the Zimbabwe side of the river, these unfenced areas allow animals to roam as they please. In this remote Park, you will be challenged to find any sign of human inhabitants.

Lusaka is Zambia's administrative and financial capital and is centrally located in the country, making it a hub of regional commerce. Situated on a plateau, Lusaka's altitude ensures a generally agreeable climate. The city is rapidly growing, and urban road development needs help to keep pace. Nevertheless, it is a lively, modern African city with ample shopping centres and service industries. While there is high unemployment in the city (60% +) it is generally regarded as safe for tourists with a common-sense approach. Lusaka's central location makes it an excellent springboard to tourist attractions further afield, and there is a good selection of accommodations and restaurants to choose from.

Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park

Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park originates on the Zambian side of The Victoria Falls and stretches from the Batoka Gorge for 12km along the Zambezi River. At 66 sq. km, Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park is one of the smallest in Zambia and Africa's Eden, but it is the most accessible and packs a punch with what it has to offer. Sheer awe as you experience the thundering spray from the magnificent Falls to quiet contemplation as you approach the endangered white rhino on a guided safari further along the park.

North Luangwa National Park

The North Luangwa National Park sits at the southern end of the Great Rift Valley, in the shadow of the Muchinga Escarpment. The Mwaleshi River ensures the park has year-round water, while the Luangwa River marks the eastern boundary. Popularly known in Zambia as North Park (with South Luangwa being South Park), it covers an area of 4636 sq. km (1790 sq. mi), made up of riverine forest, savannah, mixed acacia, miombo and mopane woodlands. This variety of habitats lends itself to a robust diversity of large mammals, and the park is the only one in Zambia that is home to the Big 5. However, for many, the attraction of North Luangwa is its extreme remoteness, the lack of infrastructure and the low visitor numbers, which, combined, provide an experience to the classic African experience.

Siavonga is the so-called 'Riviera of Zambia', the weekend breakaway destination of choice for Lusaka's more affluent residents and tourists. It has also become a popular conference and team-building destination, and the incredible selection of hotels catering to that market is testimony to this fact. A comfortable 2.5-hour drive from Lusaka, Siavonga also offers visitors various guest houses, self-catering accommodation and campsites. There are no options to get to Siavonga directly by air. Those visiting for leisure are generally watersport enthusiasts, with boating and fishing the main recreational activities. The scenic landscapes around the lake and surrounding areas make this a popular place for photographers and artists.

South Luangwa National Park

Located in Eastern Zambia at the end of the Great Rift Valley, South Luangwa National Park was established in 1972. Abundant game grazes peacefully on the banks of the languid Luangwa River as it traverses the Park, one of the four most significant rivers in Zambia. This is the Park to find the elusive leopard along with other big predators. Being the birthplace of the walking safari, this remains one of its main attractions and a superb way to experience Africa's wildlife first-hand.
