Mankwe Tented Retreat occupies a secret spot among the evergreen mopane trees in a 365 000 hectare private concession on the eastern boundary of Moremi Game Reserve. Mankwe, meaning ‘mother leopard’, offers privacy and safari comfort on the doorstep of the Okavango Delta.
Botswana’s expansive paradise runs wild around Mankwe’s 10 Meru-style tented chalets, where guests can absorb the presence of birds and wildlife, day and night. Beautifully constructed wood and canvas suites are mounted on raised decks overlooking the bush.
The central area houses a swimming pool with expansive decking that flows through to a dining area and small boma. The deck area is adorned with deck chairs and there are various sheltered enclaves for relaxing. Leading out from the main wooden walkway is a second swimming pool, complete with sun loungers, umbrellas, and a pool bar. But that’s not all – there’s also a lounge/reading area branching off from the meandering walkway, offering a complete sense of privacy. On-site, there’s also a small spa treatment room where treatments can be booked in advance.
Guests reside in the tranquil quietude of Mankwe, while daily safari excursions explore the Khwai wetlands, Moremi’s diverse wildlife habitats, as well as the network of private pans surrounding the lodge itself.
The property is not located in Moremi Game Reserve or Chobe, but is located on a private concession that borders both the parks which makes day trips a possibility.

Mankwe is located in a large private concession with open borders to the Moremi Game Reserve. Evening game drives are conducted in the area, visiting the network of pans and watering holes and stopping for a sundowner in a scenic spot before returning to the lodge.
Mankwe is perfectly positioned only a 30-minute game drive to North Gate or South Gate of the Moremi Game Reserve, and the gateway to the famous Khwai region. The location of Mankwe in a vast private concession gives guests the opportunity to go on night-time safaris, whereas driving after dark is not permitted in the national parks and game reserves. Here, game drives can continue after dark with a spotlight, and creating the opportunity to see nocturnal animals.
Boat cruises and mokoro excursions through the Okavango Delta’s channels can be added to the full day safari into Moremi Game Reserve.
